Day 23 of solo cycling in Tibet: Young people ignite my passion for running to Lhasa at night
Today is about yesterday’s events.
The original plan yesterday was to cross Mount Mira and stay at Mozhugongka at night.
Today, I will come to Lhasa calmly.
However, a cyclist I met on the road ignited my passion and made me run to Lhasa at night with him.
My teammate’s surname is Liu, let’s call him Xiao Liu.
I am 28 years old and will start working after graduating from graduate school in August.
Take advantage of his free time before work to fulfill his dream of cycling the Sichuan Tibet Line.
Unexpectedly, after only two days of cycling, his legs and knees were injured.
It is impossible to ride on the uphill.
Therefore, almost all the uphill steps of Almost all along the 2000 km Sichuan Tibet line are pushed, tens of thousands of steps every day.
It is estimated that at least hundreds of kilometers have been pushed down.
When I met Xiao Liu yesterday, he was pushing a cart towards Mira Mountain.
There are still three or four kilometers away from Yakou, and I am a bit too tired to ride on my high horse.
So we pushed and talked.
Xiao Liu took imported painkillers for his last ride today.
After coming down from Mira Mountain, it was mostly downhill, so he didn’t feel much pain in his knee joints.
When I arrived in Maizhokunggar County, I asked Xiao Liu how he was, and he said he still wanted to go to Lhasa.
I said okay, I’ll be with you too.
He was very happy to hear that.
So, after eating a bowl of dumplings and drinking a bowl of sweet tea, we happily set off.
After 9 pm, it was all dark.
On the pitch black night, we were like two small sampans floating in the vast sea, moving forward and backward along the Sichuan Tibet Line.
Taking advantage of the light passing by, we accelerated forward.
Xiao Liu’s legs hurt and he rode slowly, so I waited for him in the roadside clearing.
It wasn’t until around midnight that we entered the city center of Lhasa.
When we arrived at the Potala Palace, it was already 1 o’clock in the morning.
This cycling also broke my personal record for the longest single cycling distance, over 180 kilometers.
Previously, I thought it was impossible for me to complete this distance.
Now I feel that I am not impossible, but rather thinking in my heart that it is impossible.
So, what others can do, so can we.
However, cycling 180 kilometers is indeed quite tiring.
Until this afternoon, my legs still had muscle soreness and it seems that I still need to exercise.
Today, coincidentally, I met two families I met on the street in Lhasa at noon, riding motorcycles with my children from Liuzhou.
We had Tibetan noodles, drank sweet tea, and had a chat together, which was very enjoyable.
Dad wants to take his daughter back by train, but he says he feels a bit dangerous on the road and has been forced to stop several times by retrograde cars.
Chinese people’s driving skills do need to be improved, and I have also encountered similar situations on the road
