The main source of Wenyu River is Guangou water, which comes from “Guanshan”; The Beisha River, Dongsha River, and Nansha River are the three major branches of its upstream source, flowing through the five districts of Haidian, Changping, Shunyi, Chaoyang, and Tongzhou in present-day Beijing, and ending at the Beiguan Sluice in Tongzhou, with a total length of about 60 kilometers.
The river channel below the North Gate of Tongzhou is called Luhe, which flows eastward into the sea.
It is the only river that originates within Beijing and has abundant water throughout the year, known as the “mother river” of Beijing.
